Measuring the available space is the starting point
for "making it all fit ".
However, if the thought of reading numbers on a
rule makes your palms sweat, have no fear! Here's some guidelines:
 | First and foremost--no need to be exact! At this
stage, if your measurements are within one (1) inch, that will be close
enough. (Really!)
 | You should use a steel tape measure; one that
spans your longest run in one shot is ideal. Avoid measuring with a ruler,
yard stick, or cloth tape. |
|
OK, a couple of reminders while the thought of a
new Kitchen or Bath is running through your head:
 | Cabinet manufacturers lead time runs approximately
4-14
weeks depending on the type; longer during the busy times of the year (Early Summer
and Autumn)
 | Planning and Preparing the space is an vital and important part of the
Makeover process. The better and tighter the plans and specifications
are, the smoother the MakeOver process will be. |
|
Step 1: Let's look at a typical floor plan.
When you draw you plan, graph paper with the light blue lines will be helpful
but not necessary. Often times, we draw our plans at a scale of 1/2"
= 1 foot. Typical graph paper has squares that are 1/4" square.
4 squares (2 squares x 2 squares) on the graph paper would equal 1 square foot.
 | Our sample room below has two doors, a window, and the goal is to have cabinetry on
two walls. |
 | Take room dimensions, including all dimensions around the room. |
 | Measure to the outside of all casings. |
 | Also, measure floor-to-ceiling height, preferably in a few places where the
cabinetry will be. (You may be surprised how much it can vary!) |
 | If you have any soffits, make a note of where they are also. Take a
measurement of their height and width. |
Do you have a digital camera? Send us a few shots of what you have
along with your plan and e-mail them to
us.
